Measles kills 10 children in a day, 53 more cases confirmed across Bangladesh

Another 10 children have died from measles and related symptoms across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, with one confirmed case and the remaining nine showing signs of the disease.

Health authorities also detected 53 new confirmed infections during this period.

The Directorate General of Health Services said in its regular measles bulletin on Tuesday that 88 people have died from measles cases nationwide since Mar 15.

Another 467 have died with suspected symptoms, bringing the total child death toll to 555.

Dhaka has seen the highest number of deaths from measles-like symptoms at 184, followed by Rajshahi Division at 83.

In the past 24 hours, 1,083 patients came to hospitals with measles symptoms, of whom 945 were admitted.

Dhaka hospitals took in the highest number at 366, while Rangpur saw the lowest with 17 admissions.

With the new cases, the total number of suspected patients in the country reached 66,023, while confirmed measles cases stood at 8,772.
