A routine highway journey has turned deadly in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka as a passenger bus spiralled out of control, triggering a chain collision before slamming into a roadside electric pole, leaving two people dead and around 30 others injured.
The accident occurred around noon on Friday in front of Tafrid Cotton Mill near Kluber Bazar on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, according to Bhaluka Bharadoba Highway Police chief Mehedi Hasan.
The dead have been identified as Mushi Akter, 40, wife of Jalal Uddin from Trishal Upazila, and an unidentified man nearly 60 years old.
Both victims were passengers on the bus.
Police and locals said the bus heading from Dhaka to Nalitabari in Sherpur lost control and hit a pillar after hitting an autorickshaw and motorcycle at Bharadoba.
Mushi died on the spot while the injured were taken to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where the elderly man succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Atiqur Rahman, senior station officer of Bhaluka Fire Service, said five to six of the rest 30 injured are in a critical state.
