The interim government has deemed all six demands raised by the students of Milestone School and College to be reasonable.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Chief Advisor’s Office, Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Law Advisor Asif Nazrul, and Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor, met with student representatives at the school’s Uttara campus around noon.
Following the discussion, Nazrul said a data centre has been set up at the school to provide information about the dead and injured. He added that details on those missing were also being updated regularly from the centre.
The government, he said, is arranging compensation, rehabilitation, and trauma management support for the victims’ families.
Nazrul also addressed allegations that some Army personnel had assaulted students while controlling crowds after the crash, saying the government regretted the incident and that the matter would be referred to the Army authorities for appropriate action.
He further assured the students that the Air Force would be directed to avoid flying training aircraft over densely populated areas.
Abrar informed the students that a revised date for the Higher Secondary Certificate examination, originally scheduled for Jul 24, would be announced following the completion of the ongoing exams.
On Monday afternoon, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed on the campus of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Diabari neighbourhood, killing 27 people.
Another 78 are currently receiving treatment in hospitals. The government has declared a day of state mourning on Tuesday in response to the tragedy.
