The Bangladesh Army has recovered a large cache of firearms and ammunition after busting a hideout of the separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), also known as the Bawm party, in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.
The army conducted the raid in a remote part of Bandarban’s Ruma Upazila, the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday, reports bdnews24.com.
However, the ISPR did not provide any further details about the operation.
The KNF was the focus of a joint operation in the remote Chattogram Hill Tracts for a year until October 2023, following reports of escalating violence.
After the operation, there was a brief lull in the violence as talks took place between the group and the authorities.
However, the peace was short-lived as KNF members carried out daring bank robberies in early April, prompting the government to restart the crackdown.
Several members of the separatist group, along with dozens of individuals from the ethnic Bawm community, have been arrested since then.
