Asian Games Athletics: Bangladesh's fastest man Imranur eliminated from 100-metre semifinal

The last two-time fastest man of Bangladesh, Imranur Rahman, was eliminated from the semifinal of the men's 100-metre sprint of the 19th Asian Games Athletics at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Hangzhou on Saturday.

The England-based Bangladesh-origin athlete finished sixth among the eight participants of the event's first semifinal with a timing of 10.42 seconds, improving just 02 seconds over the heats.

In his first appearance in the Asian Games on Friday, Imanrur qualified for the event's semifinal as he finished third in heat number five, clocking 10.44 seconds. 

However, he was placed overall 17th among 24 athletes who qualified for the semifinals from the event's five heats.

Earlier, Imranur made his career-best time of 10.11 seconds in the 100-metre sprint in an athletics competition held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

The Bangladesh Athletics Federation recognised his personal best timing as the Bangladesh national record as the meet was approved and accredited by the World Athletics.

Imranur earlier clinched the historic gold medal, the first-ever by any Bangladeshi athlete at the Asian level, in the men's 60-metre sprint of the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships with a record timing of 6.59 seconds at the Kazakhstan capital Astana last February.

He emerged as the country's fastest man with a national record in his maiden competition, with a timing of 10.29 seconds.

He further improved his record in the Asian Athletics Championship held in Bangkok in July this year with a timing of 10.25 seconds in the 100 m sprint.

Earlier, Bangladeshi-origin American boxer Jinnat Ferdous was eliminated from the boxing event of the ongoing Asian Games in the very first round after suffering a straight 0-5 defeat.
