Hafez Maulana Mufti Ruhul Amin, the Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, has been removed from his position.
An official statement issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Sunday confirmed his removal.
Baitul Mukarram Khatib remained absent since the fall of the Awami League regime on August 5.
In his absence, the responsibility of leading the prayers was assigned to several scholars from the Islamic Foundation.
On Friday, Ruhul Amin unexpectedly returned to the mosque to lead the Jum'a prayers. Subsequently, when the congregants refused to pray behind him, a clash erupted between the devotees and the supporters of the former Khatib.
At least 50 persons (musullis/worshippers) were injured in the clash.
