Bangladesh receives $1.26b remittance in 16 days of August

Expatriate Bangladeshis sent around US$1.26 billion (Tk 126.44 crores) remittances during the first sixteen days of August in the fiscal 2025-26, according to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued on Monday.

This amount reflects a daily average remittance of $79.02 million sent by expatriates during the period.

However, from August 10 to 16, a total of $589.20 million was received over six days.

During this period, 10 banks did not receive any remittances. These included state-owned Bangladesh Development Bank (BDBL), specialised Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), and private banks such as Community Bank, Citizens Bank, ICB Islamic Bank, and Padma Bank. Among foreign banks, no remittances were sent through Habib Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, State Bank of India, and Woori Bank.

An analysis of the central bank’s data shows that, out of the total remittances received by August 16, $336.1 million came through state-owned banks, $167 million through a specialised bank, $759.8 million through private banks, and $7.65 million through foreign banks.
