British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BAT Bangladesh) has announced the relocation of its registered head office from New DOHS, Mohakhali to Ashulia in Dhaka.

The company’s Board of Directors made the decision in a recent meeting, according to a disclosure published on the website of the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Thursday.

As per the announcement, the new head office address, effective from July 1, 2025, will be: British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited, Dehora, Dhamsona, Balibhadra Bazar, Ashulia, Dhaka-1349.

The Board also approved the closure of the company's factory operations in Dhaka, also effective from July 1, 2025.

The Mohakhali factory was established in 1965, following BAT Bangladesh’s first factory in Foujdarhat, Chattogram, set up in 1949.

Located in a residential area, the Mohakhali facility had long faced calls for relocation from environmental groups.

Company sources indicate BAT Bangladesh operated its Mohakhali head office and factory premises under a lease agreement, with each term lasting 30 years and renewable for up to 90 years.

After operating for 60 years, the company applied for another 30-year renewal, but the authorities did not approve it, they add.

In response, BAT Bangladesh filed a legal challenge in an effort to retain its long-standing facility in Mohakhali.

The case aimed to overturn the lease rejection and allow continued operations at the site.

On May 28, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed the company’s appeal.

Following the verdict, BAT Bangladesh made its decision to relocate the head office and shut down the Mohakhali factory.
