Bayezid Link Road, the first-ever toll-paying road of Chattogram, will be named after Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib.
The Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) in its 458th board meeting in August decided to name Bayezid Link Road after Bangamata.
"In its 458th board meeting, we made a decision to name Bayezid Faujdarhat Link Road as Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib Road and sent the proposal to the minister concerned to this end," CDA chief told the FE.
According to sources, the CDA is going to introduce toll for using Bayezid Link Road, which has been opened to traffic after development.
The road was finally opened to traffic in 2020 and it soon turned into a tourist attraction for its scenic beauty on its both sides.
The CDA built the road without obtaining environmental clearance from the Department of Environment (DoE).
The project was undertaken in 1997. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved it in 1999 at Tk 33.81 crore.
Spectra Engineers Ltd built the road after rounds of project cost revisions.
The project included a six-kilometre four-lane road, a 3,685 square-metre rail overbridge, 200-metre retaining wall, six single-span RCC bridges, 6,830-metre drain and 11 culverts.
The CDA has submitted a detailed project plan to the ministry for collecting toll from traffic for using the road, said CDA chief engineer Kaji Hasan Bin Shams.
As planned, a motorcycle has to pay Tk 10, three-wheeler Tk 15, car, jeep or microbus Tk 50, pickup and minibus Tk 80, four-wheeler truck Tk 120, and six-wheeler bus, truck and covered van Tk 150.
If the government will approve the DPP of CDA, the Bayezid Link Road will be the first ever toll road in Chattogram.
