BNP, JCD demand justice in DU student Shammo’s murder

The leaders and activists of Jatiotabadi Chatradal (JCD) on Wednesday held a protest rally on the Dhaka University campus where they demanded the resignation of the university's vice-chancellor and proctor.

JCD leaders made this demand at a short rally in front of the university's VC's quarters after a protest march across the campus demanding justice in the killing of the Dhaka University student and their activist Shahriar Alam Shammo near Suhrawardy Udyan late Tuesday.

After the short rally, Shammo's funeral was held inside the university's central mosque after the noon prayers.

Earlier, a Dhaka court sent three arrestees to jail in connection with the killing of Dhaka University student Shammo.

At the rally, JCD central president Rakibul Islam Rakib said that Suhrawardy Udyan has become a haven for drug addicts and drug addicts.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka south BNP unit held a separate protest march in the city demanding justice and fair trial in the murder without any delay.

Dhaka University student Shammo was stabbed to death by miscreants in the Suhrawardy Udyan area around 12 midnight Tuesday. The Dhaka University and the Suhrawardy Udyan authorities jointly on Wednesday took some decisions in a meeting over the emerging situation.

Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan in social media confirmed this.
