Stocks tumbled in early trading on Sunday, as jittery investors dumped their holdings amid panic selloffs.
The ongoing Iran-Israel tensions intensified as American forces became directly involved the war by bombing three nuclear site in Iran early Sunday.
Following the news, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went down by more than 50 points or 1.06 per cent to 4,704 after the first hour of trading at 11:00 am, when the report was filed.
Market experts said the investors had been suffering from a severe confidence crisis and found no immediate solution to the prevailing dismal market outlook as the Middle East crisis deepened further.
The DS30 index, a group of 30 prominent companies, also index 19 points to 1,763, while the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companieTurnover 11 points to 1,026 till then.
Turnover, another important indicator of the market, remained low and amounted to Tk 746 million till then.
Of the issues traded till then, 316 declined, 19 advanced, and 46 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.
Lovello Ice-cream was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 56 million changing hands till then.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange saw a downturn till then with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)— losing 32 points to 3,239 while the Selective Categories Index – CSC 8,091 till then.
