The Election Commission (EC) has said the overall law and order situation remains under control, while warning of strict action against anyone seeking to disrupt the electoral process.

On Sunday, the constitutional body responsible for organising the parliamentary election said efforts were under way to identify those attempting to undermine the polls.

It also directed law-enforcing agencies to act firmly against activities that could damage the election environment.

At the same time, the EC decided to resume joint forces operations, saying the move would help restore and strengthen public confidence.

The decisions came during a meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban with the heads of different law-enforcing agencies. The issues were outlined by the EC during a briefing after the meeting.
