The Financial Express editor, Shamsul Huq Zahid, has underscored the importance of addressing logistics challenges to boost Bangladesh’s export performance.
“If we can reduce logistics expenses by 25 per cent, our exports could grow by 20 per cent,” he told a roundtable titled “Challenges, Opportunities, and Way Forward in Shipping & Logistics Landscape” at the Lakeshore Heights Hotel in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Sunday.
He noted that although logistics is a significant issue, it receives little attention.
Mr Zahid acknowledged that not all stakeholders could be accommodated in the present roundtable and said the newspaper was considering organising a larger event on the issue in the future.
He added that a supplementary report would be prepared based on the discussions to draw policymakers’ attention to the challenges facing the shipping and logistics sector.
The FE editor pointed out that costs incurred from producer to destination are often passed on to consumers, and stressed that consumer interests must also be kept in mind when designing logistics systems.
He thanked the sponsors and participants for their support in making the roundtable possible.
The event was organised by The Financial Express.
