A fire that erupted on the eighth floor of the 17-storey AWR Tower near Gulshan-1 circle in Dhaka city on Saturday afternoon was swiftly brought under control within 20 minutes by 4:40 pm, local media reports.

The blaze broke out on the building's eighth floor around 4:20 pm, said Md Rafi Al Faruk, a duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Three firefighting units managed to extinguish the fire, he said.

A senior officer at Gulshan Fire Station said that the fire started from a short circuit on the outdoor part of an air-conditioning unit.

As it did not spread inside the building, all those who had been inside the building were safe, Monirul Islam said.
