The first group of Bangladeshi nationals willing to return from Iran is expected to arrive in Dhaka next week, as the government ramps up evacuation efforts amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
"The ministry is working to ensure that the first batch of returnees reaches Bangladesh next week," said Shah Asif Rahman, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), at a press briefing on Sunday.
In light of the worsening security situation in Iran, particularly following recent attacks targeting key infrastructure, the government has initiated a phased repatriation process for all Bangladeshi citizens residing in the country who wish to return.
The foreign ministry urged interested individuals to immediately register with the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran by submitting their names, addresses, and relevant details.
The ministry is also coordinating closely with the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment to facilitate the repatriation.
Hotlines have been activated for assistance: Bangladesh Embassy, Tehran: +989908577368, +989122065745, MoFA, Dhaka: +8801712012847 (including WhatsApp support).
The Bangladesh government is particularly concerned about approximately 400 Bangladeshis currently residing in Tehran, who are considered at heightened risk.
While the total number of Bangladeshis in Iran is estimated to be under 2,000, many have settled there through marriage or long-term residence.
