Flights cancelled at Kolkata airport following Ahmedabad plane crash

Following the tragic crash of an Air India Dreamliner in Ahmedabad, two Kolkata-bound flights from the city were cancelled, airport authorities at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport confirmed. Another flight, which departed for Ahmedabad at 1:35 PM on Thursday (June 12), was forced to return mid-air upon receiving news of the accident.

Later, two more Ahmedabad-bound flights scheduled for 4:10 PM and 9:25 PM were also cancelled, according to DD.

The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 passengers crashed onto the hostel of B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM. Indian media reported that nearly all on board perished except one survivor, marking this as possibly the world’s deadliest air disaster in the past decade.

Air India stated that 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian citizen were aboard. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the airport area remains sealed by police.
