A freight train derailment in the capital’s Uttara area disrupted operations on one of the two rail lines at the Dhaka-Tongi junction on Monday morning.
Kamalapur Railway Station Master Md Anowar Hossain said that the incident took place around 5:30 am in Uttara’s Azampur. The container train was on its way from Dhaka to Chattogram.
The derailment caused delays as trains are now running in both directions on a single track, according to a bdnews24.com report.
The route from Dhaka is now closed. However, trains are coming and going on the Dhaka-bound line. This has not paused operations, but some trains are delayed by half an hour or an hour.
According to the station master, recovery efforts are underway to retrieve the derailed train and remove it from the tracks.
“The line will probably be fixed in a short while,” he said.
