Problems at Jagannath University (JnU) could be resolved through the cooperation of all parties, Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud has said.

He made the remarks while speaking to a Bangla-language daily on Friday.

Students and faculty members of JnU have been demonstrating at the Kakrail intersection in Dhaka for three consecutive days, pressing a three-point demand.

Protesters say the university has faced years of neglect since its upgrade from a college, with essential facilities still lacking.

Some of the demands fall under the jurisdiction of the planning ministry, as they require approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec), Prothom Alo reports.

Prof Mahmud, who previously held roles in both the education and planning ministries, said swift Ecnec approval could be obtained if the university submits a well-prepared proposal for its second campus.

He added that the education ministry and the University Grants Commission are working actively to address the remaining concerns raised by students.

“I believe the issues can be resolved through collaboration, especially as academic activities have already been significantly disrupted,” he said.
