Vote counting in the long-awaited Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall union elections has finally begun.
The process started at the Senate Bhaban at 10:30 pm, according to the Election Commission.
Ballots for the hall unions are being counted first, followed by that for the central students’ union, it said.
While officials could not confirm exactly when vote counting will end, they said that a clearer idea would emerge once a portion of the counting is completed.
Election Commission member Professor Mafrushi Sattar said it might take until Friday morning for the final results to be published.
JU Proctor and Election Commission Member-Secretary Professor Rashedul Islam, Professor Lutful Elahi, and other faculty members are overseeing the counting process.
Earlier in the day, voting took place from 9:00am to 5:00pm in 21 residential halls of the university.
Officials said students who were still waiting in line when polls closed were allowed to cast their ballots.
Once voting ended, ballot boxes from all 21 halls were moved to the Senate Hall under supervision for the counting.
Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal-backed panel, along with four other panels, announced a boycott of the election, alleging irregularities in the election.
