Energy Advisor Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has called on consumers to keep air conditioners set at 25 degrees Celsius or higher during Ramadan and the summer months to conserve power.
Those who fail to comply with this will face either power disconnections or legal action, he told reporters after a discussion at the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference in Dhaka city.
The measure could help save 2,000 to 3,000 megawatts of electricity daily, he said, adding that a special monitoring team would ensure enforcement.
Mr Khan said letters are being issued to all advisory council members to take necessary steps for enforcement, with a separate letter to be sent to the cabinet secretary regarding the Secretariat.
For households, he conveyed the request through the media.
Bangladesh is likely to observe Ramadan from March 2, while summer is expected to begin in mid-April.
