Religious Affairs Adviser to the interim government Dr AFM Khalid Hossain on Tuesday said that the next general elections will be held in broad daylight.

“There will be no vote in the night in future and the election commission will do everything for holding a free, fair and neutral election,” he said while addressing a discussion at Nesarabad Kamil Madrasha here as chief guest, BSS reports.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jhalokati Ashrafur Rahman, the function was addressed, among others, by Superintendent of Police (SP) Uzzwal Kumar Ray, Director General of the Islamic Foundation Maulana Shah Md Nesarul Haque, Amirul Muslihin Khalilur Rahman Nesarabadi, Assistant Professor of Chattogram University Dr Shahidul Haque and Principal of Nesarabad Madrasha Gazi Shahidul Islam.

“We have to be careful as no party or person can destroy the country by looting it after assuming the state power in future", Dr Khalid said adding that we should remember that the country is ours, it’s not a personal property of anybody and it has not been leased out to her or him.

He said, there will be a general election in the country every five years and the people will vote as their choice. It’s not the duty of a patriot politician to kill the democracy by own hands after assuming power, he added.

He urged all to work unitedly for the development of the country and there must be a stable government for five years. A group of people is now in the state power, another party was in power during the previous time and another party will come to the power in future, he added.

Dr Khalid said a vested quarter had carried out looting and attacks on various sections of people after the changeover of August 5.

"We have already arrested 92 persons and lodged over 70 criminal cases over those incidents and the culprits responsible for those would be punished", he said, adding that there is no alternative of unity among the Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities for the overall development of the country.
