The submission of individual income tax returns will begin in July this year, said National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan on Wednesday.
This marks a significant shift from last year, when the tax return process commenced in September. The earlier start is aimed at encouraging timely submissions and streamlining the tax compliance process.
“As of today, a total of 1.7 million (17 lakh) income tax returns have already been filed online,” the NBR chairman said.
He made the announcement while addressing a seminar organised by the Youth Policy Network, where he attended as the chief guest.
The chairman also highlighted the NBR’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital infrastructure and taxpayer services to promote voluntary compliance and transparency in the taxation system.
“We are working to develop a fully automated revenue system where taxpayers will no longer be required to appear in person at tax offices,” said NBR Chairman.
He also mentioned that being yesterday the revenue collection amounted at nearly TK 3.53 billion.
He also expected for a growth in revenue collection in this fiscal year.
