Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of two more women from the Padma River following a harrowing bus accident at Daulatdia Ferry Terminal in Rajbari, raising the total recovered to four.
The victims were transported to the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex, Rajbari Civil Surgeon SM Masud confirmed, though their identities could not be immediately verified.
The horror struck on Wednesday evening when a Dhaka-bound Showhardo Paribahan bus, carrying dozens of passengers, lost control while attempting to board a ferry.
The vehicle plunged roughly 30 feet into the river, Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters reported.
A unit from Goalanda Fire Service and a diving team from Aricha are conducting rescue efforts, while two additional diving units from Dhaka and Faridpur are en route.
Several videos circulating on social media show the bus atop the pontoon, waiting to board the ferry.
The ferry was already moored with passengers and vehicles aboard when the moving bus suddenly veered off the pontoon and plunged into the river.
Another clip shows bystanders on the pontoon and ferry rushing to the scene as the bus sank, with a few passengers surfacing after the bus submerged.
Using ropes and lifebuoys tossed by those on the ferry and pontoon, they managed to pull themselves to safety.
The search continues amid tense scenes at Daulatdia, as relatives and rescuers comb the river for more survivors and victims.
