As part of the nationwide quota reform movement, students from various colleges blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at the Shimrail intersection on Thursday amid the nationwide ‘shutdown’.

More than a hundred students hold positions around 11 am on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway demanding quota reform.

Due to the closure of all types of vehicular traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, many people were seen walking to their destinations, according to local media outlets report.

The protesting students said, "We have taken the streets to achieve our demands, not to create any sort of disorder. Our brothers have shed blood, and we seek justice for that.”

They further claimed, “We are conducting a justified movement. We are not 'Razakar', we are students."

During this time, the protesters attacked two leaders of the Chhatra League and set fire to their motorcycles.

Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddiq, officer-in-charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station, acknowledged the incident of setting the motorcycle on fire.

“We are trying to bring the situation under control,” said he.
