Quota protesters blocked rail lines in Dhaka’s Mohakhali and Nakhalpara areas on Thursday amid the countrywide ‘shutdown’, halting train service from Dhaka to the rest of the country.
“The train routes have been blocked in the Mohakhali and Nakhalpara areas,” said Kamalapur Station Master Md Anowar Hossain. “This has interrupted train service.”
It is not yet clear whether any trains are stuck due to the demonstrations, according to a bdnews24.com report.
After clashes between quota reform protesters, police and pro-Awami League factions in the past two days, protesters declared a 'complete shutdown' on Thursday.
The programme has led to a public transport crisis in the capital since morning, causing severe difficulties for working-class people.
Traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway has been halted due to blockades at Shanir Akhra and Matuail Road. Protesters and police are clashing near BRAC University.
