As the conflict in the Middle East continues, Qatar has issued a warning to the United States that the current escalation seen in the region will have “dangerous repercussions” on international security and peace.
Issuing the warning during a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Saturday, Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed the need for containing the crisis and intensifying diplomacy to end it, reports Qatar News Agency.
The emir said: “Qatar will not hesitate to defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests in line with the UN Charter and the provisions of international laws.”
The latest developments following the continued Iranian attacks on Qatar and countries in the region and the efforts made to contain the current escalation were discussed during the call.
The two leaders agreed on the importance of working together to help maintain regional and international stability, supporting political pathways to ease tensions and prevent further escalation in the region.
According to the Qatari Ministry of Defence, the country came under a wave of drone attacks on Friday, with 10 drones fired from Iran.
Several rounds of explosions took place in Doha on Thursday, hours after officials had started evacuating residents living near the US embassy.
Prior to the blasts, Qatar intercepted Iranian attacks that targeted civilian infrastructure, including the international airport on Mar 2.
