Shanto surges in rankings after twin centuries against Sri Lanka in Galle Test

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has made a major leap in the ICC Test batting rankings, climbing 21 spots to 29th after scoring centuries in either innings of the drawn first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
Shanto, who struck 148 and 125, became the first Bangladeshi to score two centuries in a Test match more than once, and only the 16th captain in Test history to do so.
His standout performance was reflected in the latest weekly rankings by the ICC on Wednesday.
Mushfiqur Rahim also moved up 11 places to 28th after his commanding 163-run knock in the first innings and 49 in the second.
Shadman Islam climbed three spots to 55th after scoring 76 in the second innings.
Among bowlers, off-spinner Nayeem Hasan advanced six positions to 48th following his 5-wicket haul in the first innings and another scalp in the second.
Seamer Hasan Mahmud, who took three wickets, rose five spots to 54th, where he was tied with West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph.
Elsewhere, performances from the Headingley Test between England and India also impacted the rankings.
England’s Rishabh Pant, after scoring 134 and 118, moved up one place to seventh, becoming just the second wicketkeeper in Test history to register twin centuries.
Ben Duckett entered the top 10 for the first time, climbing five spots to eighth after scores of 62 and 149 in England’s successful run chase.
Ollie Pope rose three places to 19th after a first-innings century, while Jamie Smith jumped eight spots to 27th.
India’s Shubman Gill advanced five places to 20th after his century in the first innings, and KL Rahul climbed 10 places to 38th following his second-innings hundred.
Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka also gained ground after his 187 against Bangladesh, moving up 21 places to 31st.
In the Test bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah retained his top position, while England’s Brydon Carse moved up eight spots to 32nd after taking four wickets against India.
Josh Tongue climbed 16 places to 64th, and India’s Prasidh Krishna rose 21 places to 72nd following his 5-wicket match haul.
India’s Ravindra Jadeja remained the top-ranked Test allrounder, with England captain Ben Stokes moving up three places to fifth.
