Jewellery comes in many forms, including gold, silver, diamond, antique, temple, oxidised, pearl, and many more. Among all, antique jewellery is renowned for its intricate designs and wonderful artistry.
Young girls wear antique jewellery, mostly with traditional dresses like saree, kameez, and kurti. Antique and vintage jewellery is becoming the most trendy for young girls. Oxidised and silver ones can be styled with any coloured dress. Earrings, neck pieces, nose pins, bangles, bracelets, finger rings, etc., are available in different designs and patterns.
Afifa Jahan Sneha, a BBA student from North South University, shared with this writer that she loves to wear antique jewellery more than gold ornaments. She could wear them with day-to-day outfits, but the gold jewellery doesn't suit every outfit and occasion.
She wears minimalist oxidised jewellery with her regular outfits and loves to put on heavy neckpieces, jhumkas, and bangles on special occasions or festivals. She mentioned that these are quite budget-friendly, and students can afford them easily. Also, they last for a long time if kept properly with care.
Nusrat Jahan Tisha, a newly married housewife, shared, "Gold can be worn only on some traditional occasions. Gold is out of trend nowadays; even some brides do not choose gold in their wedding fashion. The design and colour of the gold give me a back-dated look."
"Gold is quite expensive and cannot be worn regularly. Also, wearing them on regular outings is unsafe. I prefer vintage jewellery more and have a good collection in my wardrobe," she further noted.
Let's look at some antique jewellery that are in trend today.
Antique Necklace: Gold necklaces and other jewellery were worn by kings and queens in the past. These vintage necklaces were made of gold using age-old techniques. Those crafts appear weighty, yet they are perfect for traditional weddings and other important occasions. Antique jewellery designs vary and often include kundans, stones, and other gems.
Old-fashioned Ruby Necklace: Ruby gemstones are commonly found in old jewellery. In the past, valuable stones were embedded in red and green colours to give the jewellery an eternal sense. The best jewellery for a traditional wedding would be a necklace and earrings made of rubies.
Antique Jhumkas: Earrings made many years ago are referred to as antique jhumkas. Also, earrings with an antique design concept fall under this category. Without additional neck pieces, just these earrings can carry that heavy wow look.
Antique Cuff Bracelets: Cuffs have one side that can be worn open or closed on the wrist. They have only been popular in the past, but they don't seem skinny as a chain; instead, they look heavy, bold, and slightly heavy. These handcuffs are frequently encountered in silver jewellery or oxidised jewellery.
Antique Kasu Haram: The traditional Indian neckpiece, known as an antique Kasu Haram, is most commonly found in Southern India. Hindu scriptures state that goddesses once wore these as jewellery. They complement traditional clothing wonderfully.
Antique jewellery with Pearls: These are another popular jewellery style right now. Any skin tone of a woman can wear pearls. Wealth and royalty are represented by pearls with precious stones set into gold bases. Pearls have been an important and elegant member of the jewellery family for a long time, especially in the jewellery collections of queens and royal family members.
Antique Bangles: These have a heavy appearance and are somewhat unique. These bangles can be made out of plain metal or with embedded stones. Even if you wear all the necklaces, earrings, and other accessories, your outfit still looks unfinished without these bangles, especially for a lavish royal look.
Antique Armlets: Antique armlets are decorations worn on the upper arms. They dress stylishly in sarees and traditional clothing. A bride must wear this jewellery, the age-old traditional armlets, to look gorgeous on their big day.
Antique waist chain: Another piece of bridal jewellery is the antique waist chain. These are available in a variety of shapes and styles. Women look amazing wearing antique waist chains. In essence, these look wonderful with sarees and traditional clothing as well.
