Arrest warrant issued against actress Mehazabien over ‘embezzlement, death threats’

A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury on charges of "embezzlement of Tk 2.7 million and death threats" after luring the plaintiff in with promises of making him a business partner.
Judge Afroza Tania of Dhaka Executive Magistrate's Court-3 issued an arrest warrant against them on Nov 10, bdnews24.com reports.
Amirul Islam, the plaintiff in the case, confirmed the arrest warrant on Sunday.
Amirul said the accused in the case were supposed to appear in court on Nov 10, but did not show up, prompting the court to issue arrest warrants against them.
The court has set Dec 18 as the date for filing the execution report regarding the arrests.
According to the case dossier, Amirul Islam allegedly paid Tk 2.7 million in cash and through financial services company bKash to Mehazabien for funding their new family business, after she exploited her long acquaintance with him and lured him in with promises of different benefits. When Mehazabien and her brother did not take initiatives to start the business, Amirul went to them several times to ask for his money back. However, they kept delaying the payment.
On Feb 11, Amirul went to ask for the money at Mehazabien’s home. They asked him to meet at a restaurant in Hatirjheel on Mar 16. When Amirul went to the restaurant on that day, Mehazabien, her brother and four to five unidentified people abused him verbally.
“They told me - don’t ever come to our house to ask for money. If we see you near our home again, we’ll kill you.”
Amirul said they threatened and intimidated him with the words. When he went to the Vatara Police Station in a bid to resolve the matter, the authorities advised him to file a case in court.
Amirul filed the case with the Dhaka Executive Magistrate’s Court on Mar 24.
