Legendary Bangladeshi actor Ilias Javed, once a dominant presence on the country’s silver screen, was hospitalised on Wednesday after his health deteriorated, family sources said.
Speaking to a local media in the evening, Javed’s wife and actress Dolly Chowdhury said that the veteran actor has been suffering from various health complications for a long time, and his condition worsened on Wednesday, prompting them to rush him to a hospital in Uttara on doctors’ advice, UNB reports.
“Javed has been unwell for a while. Today his condition got worse, so we took him to the hospital as advised by the doctor,” Dolly Chowdhury told the media.
She said that Javed has been battling internal health issues since undergoing surgery in 2019 due to complications in his urinary system.
“After conducting some initial tests, the doctors asked for further examinations. Once we receive the reports within the next three to four days, we will know the latest status of his health,” she added.
Following the tests, Javed was brought back home, Dolly informed.
Born in 1944 in Peshawar, Afghanistan, Javed later moved to Punjab with his family before settling in Dhaka in 1963 at the age of 14. He started his career as a dance director in the Dhaka film industry and made his acting debut in 1964 with the Urdu-language film 'Nayi Zindagi'.
Javed later established himself as one of the most popular film actors in the country, especially between 1970 and 1989. Known for his dance skills and on-screen charisma, Javed reportedly never faced a flop during his heyday.
Some of his notable films include 'Shahzada', 'Kajol Rekha', 'Saheb Bibi Golam', 'Nishan', 'Ruper Rani', 'Chandan Dwiper Rajkonnya', 'Aladdin Alibaba O Sindabad' and others.
In his personal life, Javed married popular actress Dolly Chowdhury in 1984. The couple met while working together in the film 'Chandan Dwiper Rajkonnya', where their on-screen chemistry blossomed into real-life romance.
