New Netflix series takes a jab at 'Florida Man' internet meme

'Florida Man' is an internet meme that has overtaken the online world. It refers to bizarre and outlandish news stories that feature a Florida man in the headline. The meme has become so popular because of the sheer absurdity of the headlines, which often involve strange crimes, bizarre behaviour, and a dash of humour.

The comedic aspect of this meme may not translate well into the media because of its absurdity until now. The latest limited series by Netflix explores the joke and tries to create a decent comedy thriller with the same name as the meme: Florida Man.

The protagonist of this series is Mike Valentine, a former cop from Florida and a gambling addict who owes a lot of money to a mob boss named Moss.

Mike doesn't have a good relationship with his family, and with the added gambling debt, he is forced to escape Florida and hide in Philadelphia. But his escapade doesn't last long, as he gets a golden chance to clear off his debt: Find Moss's runaway girlfriend in Florida.

But a simple manhunt would make Mike's story boring. Soon as he enters Florida, his past catches up to him. He discovers the messed up family secrets, is forced to reconnect with his estranged father and sister under the circumstances and gets chased by his ex-wife.

All these things together became chaotic for Mike, who just wanted to take a short trip to Florida, find his mob boss's girlfriend, and clear his debt. When you enter Florida, there is no escape from the curse.

The seven-episode series is full of laughter and an ample amount of suspense. The last two episodes of Florida Man are packed with thrilling moments, comedic scenes, and Florida man caricatures that resemble real-life news stories. However, the show tries to fit too much into its storyline, making it too long and losing the audience's attention.

Although the show has an original story and a talented cast, the pacing is off, the script is underdeveloped, and there's not enough chemistry between the leads. Some characters and plots feel like they were added last minute without driving the story forward, which creates a chaotic and confusing experience for viewers.

Ultimately, the show falls flat and loses its appeal too soon, despite some exciting twists and funny moments.
