Veteran actor Dharmendra passes away at 89

Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89.

According to Indian media reports, he died in Mumbai, weeks after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital following a period of medical treatment.

The legendary actor had been admitted to the hospital earlier this month and was on life support at one point, according to those familiar with his condition.

The actor, who would have turned 90 on December 8, had been under strict medical observation in recent weeks.

On the professional front, Dharmendra, widely regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic and successful actors, worked in over 300 films across six decades. He received the Padma Bhushan in 2012 for his contribution to Indian cinema.

He was last seen in the 2024 film 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya'. He was also set to appear in Sriram Raghavan’s war drama 'Ikkis', starring Agastya Nanda and Simar Bhatia, with Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher in key roles.

From the late 1960s to the 1980s, Dharmendra acted in many hit films such as 'Ankhen', 'Shikar', 'Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke', 'Jeevan Mrityu', 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh', 'Seeta Aur Geeta' and many more.
