Gunfights, louder voices, a slow-motion walking scene, a car stopping in front of a mansion, and a man coming out of the vehicle suited and booted wearing a bell-bottom pant. Since he has an entry in slow-motion and everyone is cheering his name in the background, either he is a cricketer that the nation will never forget, or he is an average politician of your neighbourhood who will show up only when it's an election. But with a huge disappointment, he is none of them.
He is drinking and making unnecessary dance moves with a gun in hand that no gangsters ever did, but since he is doing all this, he must be the film's hero. This is the Toofan trailer, a film directed by Raihan Rafi. The trailer was released a few days ago on YouTube.
While Indian cinema has long revelled in tales of alpha males, finding blockbuster success in their portrayal, Dhallywood couldn't sit idly by. Thus, we present our rendition of the alpha male archetype, starring the megastar Shakib Khan.
You don't know the hero's back story, but know he has a machine gun to fire. Sometimes, he does a peculiar act with his shoulder. He is a drinker, and he is famous. To the viewers, he might be Ranvijay Balbir Singh, aka Pushpa Raj, aka Rocky Bhai. But the truth is he is number one, Shakib Khan.
If you're familiar with the KGF Hindi dubbed, you'd recognize 'Toofan' as a word that resonates throughout the film, adding to the excitement.
The film also stars Chanchal Chowdhury, who might play a cricketer who knows the director might add something new to the story.
The darkish ash, yellow, golden, and red colours of the visuals with fire will give you a feel for the coal mining field of KGF, but hanging on, Mirpur or Farmgate could be a better place for that. But where and in which era would they find the gangsters of Dhaka like those we watched in South Indian cinema? Can we see a different Dhaka in the film? Who knows, it's Shakib Khan again.
Movies like KGF, Animal, Pushpa, and the upcoming Toofan have one thing in common; the louder you shout, the more you will become a hero. The saviour is the messiah of poor people who have the luxury of bursting out angrily while lying in the bathtub.
