Jashore's 'Sadek Golla' beats every other sweets!

When the name of the district Jashore comes to someone's mind, among many things, Jamtala sweets are one of the first things that immediately strike anyone.

Since 1955, Jamtala sweets have maintained their quality, and although they were incepted in the bordering Upazila of Jashore district, they have already reached the farthest corners of the country.

Sheikh Sadek Ali of Sharsha Upazila, who initially was a tea seller, came up with the idea of creating these unique sweets where a lot of 'Chana' is used where the sweets take a light brown texture.

It is now a brand known throughout the country, and despite the original outlet being about 38 kilometres away from Jashore town, every day, they get many customers from all over the country to purchase the sweets.

Another reason behind this is that the Jamtala sweets do not use a lot of sugar, which is quite unlike most sweet outlets in the country, and as a result, they are quite edible to diabetes patients, something most sweets are not.

Jamtala sweets come from Jamtala Bazar in Sharsha Upazila, where they originated. The six sons of the late Sadek Ali created six different outlets from which Jamtala sweets spread.

Although currently the outlets are located inside Jashore, there is a plan to expand the business throughout the country. The price of the sweets varies a lot according to the size that the customers buy.

There are pieces of sweets with a price range of 5 to 20 taka. Jamtala sweets are also colloquially known as 'Sadeker Golla' after the late Sheikh Sadek Ali, the creator of the sweet brand.

The sweet brand gets a lot of orders, and they generally peak during occasions like weddings, receptions, and different social functions. Many of these orders come from different districts due to the taste and fame of Jamtala sweets. The sweets are also exported outside the country where the Bangladeshi communities live and use the sweets for different social occasions, albeit on a small scale.

Jamtala sweets are one of the branded sweets of the country and are widely popular due to their taste and aroma, as well as the fact that the brand has maintained its quality all these years. Bangladesh, being a land of diverse types of sweets, has many such brands that have maintained the quality and taste of sweets over all these years.
