Top sweets shops in Dhaka where you can find varieties of sweets

Old Dhaka, where every shop is a window into history, and every corner tells a tale. Old Dhaka is a living witness to Bangladesh's rich gastronomic and cultural legacy. Old Dhaka has numerous beauties, but the locals and visitors particularly love its sweet shops. Enriched with history, these sweets taste the city's colourful past, reflecting centuries-old recipes handed down through the generations. 

Madina Mishtanno Bhandar

This is the most famous sweet shop in Old Dhaka, near Lalbagh Kella. For more than 50 years, they have kept their popularity. This lovely shop is always crowded because of their consistent quality and taste.

They serve more than 100 kinds of sweets. Along with traditional sweets, they have some unique items like Kashmiri Haluwa, which will cost 600 taka kg. However, each plate will cost only 60 taka. This haluwa is paired with luchi.

Some other crowd favourite items are Malai chop, Shor malai, Jafran's bhog, Jafran sweet yoghurt, laddu, and many more. The price starts from 250 taka kg to 700 taka kg.

Omullo Mishtanno Bhandar

Another famous sweet shop in Shakharibazar is Omullo Mishtanno Bhandar. They have been running their shop for 51 years.

The main attractions of their lovely collection are Chanar polao and Kochuri. They serve the best chanar polao in that locality.

During puja season, they make various kinds of laddu, such as orange, ghee, and regular laddu. The price range of laddu is 220 to 300 taka per kg. Chanar Chodesh, Gurer Chodesh, Kalojaam, and Amity are the most demanding items in this shop.

Green Sweet Meat

Green Sweet Meat is one of Old Dhaka's oldest and finest sweet shops. Since 1947, they have been running this shop successfully. This shop is located at Thataribazar, near Nowabpur road.

Although they do not have a seating arrangement, you can still eat in front of the shop or takeaway. The best item in this shop is Gajorer halwa, made of ghee and mawa. They also serve laddu, jilapi and amitti. This shop is trendy for its breakfast item, luchi-alur dom, which runs out fast.  The price ranges from 10 to 200 taka. 

Shonamia Mishtanno Bhandar

Shonamiya Mishtanno Bhandar is a local sweetshop of Gendariya located at Rojoni Chowdhury Road. For 3 generations, they have been serving sweets.

They started their journey in 1951. The sweets of this shop have been loved since the Pakistan Era. They are famous for their sweet yoghurt and Chomchom; along with other sweets, they serve Rosh malai, salmon, dim bhogkhir chowchow, kacha golla, kheer toast and many more.

The price range is from 350 to 900 taka per kg. You can also get single-plate sweets, and the price ranges from 30 to 70 taka.

Moron Chad Grand Sons

One name that jumps out while looking through Old Dhaka's traditional sweets shops is Aadi Moron Chand & Sons. This shop is over a century old.

Situated on Nawabpur Road, this centuries-old institution is well-known for its superior sweets and sweet yoghurt. Among the many sweets on their menu are chhanar amrita, chhanar balushai, ras malai, chowchow, lal mohon, kalo jam, roshogolla, rajbhog, and ras malai.

Along with sweets, the store is well-known for its breakfast selection, which includes halwa, booter daal and paratha. With a simple seating arrangement, the little shop's decoration looks vintage. These sweets will cost you 300 to 700 taka per kg.
