The cockroach is one of the most widespread insects in homes that can cause significant health concerns and discomfort for people. They commonly infest homes.
Removing cockroaches from a household can be a tough job. Removing roaches as soon as possible is essential if you find them in bathrooms, kitchen cabinets, or wardrobes. They are omnivorous, which means they will eat anything and everything, including leftover food from the kitchen and even waste.
There are so many dangers involved with a cockroach infestation. Cockroaches have spines on their legs that are perfect for picking up pathogens and diseases. Salmonella, cholera, dysentery, gastroenteritis, giardia, leprosy, listeria, and even typhoid fever
First, let's talk about what attracts cockroaches the most in the household. The most common cause is that they come to find food. They will be drawn in by accessible sources of food, such as dirty dishes in the sink, pet food on the floor, or crumbs on the counter.
Second, they come home for shelter. And like all other animals, cockroaches need water, too, so you can find them behind leaky pipes and faucets, also in moist areas like the basement.
Here are some practical ways to eliminate cockroach infestation from your home.
Baking soda: Baking soda is the most common and fastest way to eliminate cockroaches. To persuade cockroaches to consume baking soda, mix equal parts with ordinary table sugar, place it on a plate, and set the trap in an area where cockroaches are likely to be found. It creates gases in the cockroaches' stomachs, causing them to die.
Boric acid: Boric acid is another effective way to kill cockroaches. It is harmless for people but deadly for cockroaches. It acts on their digestive and nervous system. And lead them to die. It is also readily available and affordable for all.
Citrus or peppermint: Mix peppermint or lemongrass oil with water, and spray anywhere you see cockroaches.
Neem: Neem has been used as a home remedy for cockroaches and other insects for many years. Neem powder or oil both can be used to eliminate cockroaches.
Liquid concentrate pesticides can also be used to remove cockroaches. If you want a safer option, try mixing fabric softener with water and storing it in a spray bottle. Whenever you spot a cockroach, spray this mixture on it directly. But it isn't the best solution for large-scale infestations.
Eliminating the sources
Now, how do you get rid of cockroaches at their source? First, keep your surroundings as clean as possible. Don't leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight. It is the most common cause of cockroach infestation. Try to wash your dishes immediately after eating.
Clean your garbage can regularly. Do not use an open garbage can. Always keep your kitchen clean. Sweep the floor and wipe the kitchen counters after cooking.
Newspaper and cardboard boxes provide suitable nesting and breeding materials, which is why cockroaches adore them. Recycle or discard unwanted cardboard boxes and old newspapers as soon as possible to avoid cockroach infestations.
Cockroaches love dark, congested places where they can hide and breed. Declutter your home and cover any gaps, fissures, or holes where they could be hiding.
Take special care around kitchen cabinets, baseboards, and electrical outlets. By eliminating hiding spots, you make your home less inviting.
Check under sinks, around toilets, and near other water sources. Reducing moisture will make your home less hospitable to cockroaches and limit their survival opportunities.
