The concept of commercial kayaking in our country is still relatively new. As Nouka Baich has lost popularity over time, kayaking and canoeing have started to take their place. So, kayaking is the modernized version of Nouka Baich in Bangladesh.

Kayaking is available in many places in our country, including Kaptai Lake, Kuakata, Karnaphuli River, Mahamaya Lake, and Cox's Bazar. But now you don't have to go that far just for kayaking, as many places inside Dhaka offer the opportunity.

As people in Dhaka constantly search for enjoyable ways to loosen up, kayaking has become a popular choice as it's a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Many lakes and water bodies nearby offer the perfect spots for this enjoyable activity.

Youth Adventure and Sports (YAS) Kayaking Point

It is located at Green Model Town Road, Dharmik Para, Matuail, Demra, about 8.8 km from Motijheel. This kayak rental service has gained quite a bit of popularity over the past few years. It's not just a kayaking place anymore; many small businesses have grown around it. Nagordola, merry-go-rounds, and other rides are also popular there.

Their website says they charge 50 taka for 15 minutes, 100 taka for 30 minutes, and 150 taka for one hour of riding time on the kayak.

They also offer free rides to senior citizens aged over 50 from 6 to 8 a.m.

Youth Adventure and Sports (YAS) has two more kayak rental services in Bangladesh. One is Uttara Kayaking at Uttara No. 13 Sector Lake Park, Uttara, Dhaka. The other one is Niladri Kayaking Point at Niladri Lake, Sunamgonj, Sylhet.

There's another kayak rental service in Diabari, Uttara. It is trendy among locals as it is near the metro rail station, about three to five minutes' walk away. Many people gather there on weekends to escape from their mundane city life.

BD Kayaking

It has two—and three-seater kayaks so you can go in pairs or groups of three. They charge only Tk100 per person for 30 minutes and Tk150 per person for an hour-long ride.

If you go there on weekends, you may have to wait as people become crowded. But once you paddle your kayak and watch the sun dip into the horizon of buildings as you laze around in the water, it all seems worth the wait.

After you buy your ticket, you can wait for them to call your number. During this time, you can review their rules and regulations, which are in place to protect their clients.

Savar Kayaking Point

It is at Yousuf Nogor Bongaon Union. Any bus from Gabtali to Savar should board and alight at the Bolyarpur bus stand. Yusuf Nagar is just three kilometres from Bolyarpur.

Getting away from the city's hustle and closer to nature will refresh you. The lake is adorable during the monsoon season when it is complete. In winter, one can even camp at Savar Kayaking Point.

Purbachal Kayaking Point

Another popular place for kayaking is Purbachal Kayaking Point at 21 Sector Lake, Lalmati, Purbachal. To get there, one must reach the Kuril Highway, where they can find a bus to Kanchan Bridge. One can take an auto ride from Kanchan Bridge to Lalmati Lake for 30 Tk.

Kayaking is an interactive activity worth adding to your bucket list. It is easy for beginners to learn how to steer the boat. But a few things to consider: First, ensure your safety. Always ask for a life jacket before getting on board. During rush hour, be cautious while getting in and out of the kayak, as it can be tricky. Also, check that the provided paddle is in good condition to avoid unforeseeable events.
