Vacationing for a few days sounds appealing to anybody wanting to escape city life. But for people with nine-to-five jobs, hectic schedules, and responsibilities, leaving for long vacations can be difficult. That is why, after a stressful week, long drives are an ideal solution for most of us.
Some of Bangladesh's roads are excellent for long drives, such as the Marine Drive in Cox's Bazar and Patiya Road from Chittagong to Bandarban. However, only a few streets near Dhaka city are suitable for long drives. For your following itinerary, here's a list of roads to consider.
Purbachal
Purbachol comes first on the list for its prime location. Purbachal 300-feet expressway is a 12.5-kilometre-long, 14-lane expressway that connects Purbachal to eastern Dhaka.
This long drive is worth noting if you plan to indulge yourself on a fun trip. It will feed your need for fresh air. Jalshiri Central Park, Bashundhara Residential area, and many other significant infrastructures can be found in your drive-through.
This place is indeed remarkable for its local markets. Deep into the long drive, locals sell vegetables, fish, and street foods in nearby villages.
Take a break, roam around, and click some photos to frame the memories of a good time. But always ensure safety. Many motorbikes are driving around recklessly, and there are also car accidents. So, despite being one of Dhaka's best places for long drives, everyone must be extra careful.
Dhaka-Manikganj
Going through the Dhaka-Manikganj road offers a delightful scenario on both sides. This road is meant for a relaxing, slow drive, where you can inhale fresh air while taking in the spectacular view towards Manikganj.
This route makes for a perfect weekend drive with different places to stop by. For example, the beautiful ancient Baliati Palace, located fifty kilometres away from Dhaka, is a spot that should be noticed.
It is one of the most famous archaeological sites in Bangladesh. The viridescent trees of local species on the roadside will mesmerize the visitors and refresh their exhausted souls.
Mawaghat
The journey to Mawa is anticipated chiefly because of the beautiful Padma River, which feeds the hunger for flavorful Hilsa fry, daal, and bhorta.
Mawaghat remains busy as always. Even in the scorching heat, the riverside is filled with people doing their regular business, giving a sense of life outside everyday city life.
Dhaka-Srimangal
Sreemangal has a different vibe, unlike any other city in Bangladesh. Vibrant tea stalls, local clothing markets, and versatile landscapes delight city dwellers.
It can take approximately four hours to reach Srimangal. However, one should intentionally lengthen this beautiful journey by taking breaks and stopping in different picturesque locations to feel and embrace nature to the fullest.
Be sure to make the journey during the monsoon. During the monsoon, the journey becomes more adventurous, as the plenteous, lush green tea gardens on the way to Sreemangal look reviving and are a treat for the roaming eyes.
Kuril bishwa road
Placed just on the outskirts of Dhaka, Kuril Bishwa Road is a tremendous drive-away option. This famous road is perfect for driving. The streets are comparatively empty, enabling a smooth driving experience.
However, with more construction work on both sides of the road, one must drive cautiously and be aware of other reckless drivers, especially alert of the highway buses. Otherwise, close to the city, this place is a good option for a beautiful long drive.
Roaming around Gazipur
This one may sound controversial, but the condition of the roads in Gazipur has improved dramatically from what we have seen for most of our lives. If you can tolerate the pressure of the Tongi area, then Gazipur is an excellent option for a long drive.
Many tourists visit nearby destinations like Sreepur and Joydebur. The area is filled with lush greenery, local villages, and eco-resorts.
One noteworthy place is the Toke Bazar in Kapasia, an excellent destination for long drives. Toke Bazar is a famous Food Wholesaler market in Kapasia, Gazipur.
A long drive is more accessible to arrange as it does not require a particular destination. It should be spontaneous, not pre-planned. Witness the magnificent views, taste those unhygienic local street foods, take a few clicks for the memories, feel that ginger tea from Tong, and try anything to delve in for some extraordinary good time.
After dealing with the exhausting city life, everyone deserves a short break occasionally. But don't let the spirit of adventure take control of your emotions. Remember, speeding is not the only way to feed those adrenaline rush. Even minor acts can make great memories when you are with the right people.
