Every single person will agree that a kid is a most valuable gift to our lives. They are just like clay; you can make them how you want, but you have to use a meticulous hand for that. As famous poet Kahlil Gibran writes

"Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you, and though they are with you, they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,

For they have their thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams."

The little one needs attention; they need space. This is the foundation of a strong bond with the parent. Children who have been attentively listened to experience feeling valued, respected, and understood.

Why is it essential to not just hear but also to listen to what our children say?

Self-esteem

If one listens and responds to their child, it boosts their self-esteem. Self-esteem is something that makes them confident. It helps them in every aspect of their life.

Respect and valuation

If parents listen to their children carefully, children also learn respect and value. They feel prioritized, and their opinions are valued. Then, they can open up their thoughts, which will make them feel the same way about the future.

Speech

If the child is below two years old, listening to them and talking with them helps with their speech. They start talking early.

Communication

Children are elementary learners, but they may need help communicating or associating the proper terms. However, those who talk more with their parents are more likely to communicate appropriately. It also builds trust between the parents and their kids.

Educational success

Children who were listened to and talked with ease and nicely also did well in education platforms. The reason behind this is that they don't feel afraid or hesitant to express themselves, so they get involved and do well in their studies.

Getting out of trauma

Many children experience trauma in their childhood, from watching their parents fight to physical abuse. These traumas haunt them throughout their life. Family or outside should take it seriously. It might not be unforgettable, but it will make them well enough to cope with the situation.

Emotional perseverance

Kids are more likely to be very emotional at an early age. They get very emotional shortly. They cry even if they don't get food or toys of their choice! Parents, as people of age, can't understand everything, but it's so intense for them.

Curiosity

Why? How? is the most demanding question for children. The world and experience are new for them, so they want to navigate. To satisfy their thirst for knowledge, one needs to listen to them and answer them.

Curiosity produces knowledge. To become better human beings, elders should not say 'No' directly to them but instead have conversations, and that is where listening is essential.
