With Eid al-Fitr just around the corner, preparations are in full swing. While new clothes and accessories are essential, skincare is a vital part of the festive preparation. Fasting all day, changing weather, and late nights can often leave the skin looking dull. However, a consistent skincare routine starting now can ensure your skin remains fresh and vibrant for the celebrations.

Stay hydrated

Maintaining hydration while fasting is a challenge. It is crucial to drink plenty of water between Iftar and Sahari. Dehydration can make the skin look lifeless.

Many people now incorporate soaked chia seeds or electrolyte drinks—which are gaining popularity—for replenishing lost minerals and maintaining moisture levels, especially for those who spend a lot of time outdoors.

Deep cleansing

Proper cleansing is the foundation of healthy skin. Given the warm climate, sweat, and pollution, it is recommended to wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser.

In addition to daily cleansing, exfoliate your skin 2–3 times a week using a gentle scrub. This removes dead skin cells, making the skin smoother and allowing moisturisers and serums to absorb more effectively. However, avoid over-scrubbing, as it can cause irritation or micro-tears.

Tackling dark circles

Dark circles under the eyes are a common concern and cannot be removed overnight, despite what many advertisements claim. Factors like genetics, lack of sleep, dehydration, and stress contribute to this.

To improve the appearance of the under-eye area, use a hydrating serum, then a good moisturiser. Regular use of sunscreen is also vital to prevent further darkening around the eyes, mouth, and chin.

Nutritional support for your skin

Skincare starts at the dining table. Traditional Iftar meals often include oily, deep-fried dishes, which can trigger breakouts. To achieve acne-free skin by Eid, reduce oily foods and include refreshing, nutrient-rich options like chickpea salads, pasta, or yogurt-based drinks. These provide energy and support healthy skin from within.

The right time for a facial

Timing is key when it comes to professional treatments. Experts suggest getting a facial at least 10 to 12 days before Eid. This allows enough time for any potential redness or irritation to subside. It is safer to stick to treatments you have tried before; avoid experimenting with new types of facials right before the festival.

You have to be consistent

The best way to care for your skin is to follow a simple, consistent routine. Drink enough water, cleanse regularly, exfoliate gently, and use a suitable moisturiser. Following these basic steps will help enhance your skin's natural radiance and keep it healthy throughout the festive season. However, if someone is going through a skin illness, the doctor's recommendation is advised.
