Humankind has sought luxury from the beginning of time. In the modern world, 5-star hotels significantly symbolise luxury for the general people. A true escape from the busy metro life, these luxury hotels can provide their guests with some memorable experiences.
But for most people, a 5-star hotel's expenses go beyond affordability. But why is a five-star so expensive?
First of all, hotel star ratings are internationally accepted indicators of the hotel's quality. The five-star brands offer the best possible amenities a guest can receive from a hotel.
There are international rating systems which label a hotel as five-star. Most of these hotels are actually international brands. Brands Like Marriott International, Radisson, IHG, Pan Pacific etc., have all established multiple hotels in our country. These international brands make deals with locals that will allow the locals to use their brand name if they meet the required standard of the hotel.
There are no shortcuts or cheap ways to build a 5-star property. The brand determines what materials will be used and from which companies the products will be imported. This promises the guests to have the same experience everywhere in the world.
International brands also send one member from their management to overlook the quality control of the hotels. We will find amazing interiors, world-class restaurants and comfortable rooms inside a 5-star hotel.
But the hotel's responsibility doesn't end just by providing world-class facilities. In the past, we have seen many threats that pose a 5-star hotel. To maintain safety and security and avoid any kind of threat, a 5-star hotel takes various preventive measures.
They provide adequate manning to operate smoothly. World-class equipment are used to scan and check everyone going inside the facility.
Most importantly, the rooms and food. If one enters the kitchen of a five-star, it'll be difficult for them to find any flaw. Stringent hygiene checks are done regularly, and the types of equipment used are the most advanced ones possible. The raw food materials are mostly imported.
Rooms are equally well decorated and equipped. A guest staying at a 5-star is bound to feel special and worthwhile. All the employees of a 5-star hotel are regularly trained on behaviour with guests so that guests receive a seamless experience. Any guests coming to the facility get treated like a lord.
Hotels also maintain maximum privacy for the guests so that they have a peaceful and tension-free stay.
But for most people in our country, it becomes almost impossible to visit such hotels regularly. Many families can run their whole month's dining expenditure with the cost of one meal in a five-star. Why are they so costly?
But in defence of the hotels, their cuisines are truly exceptional. One specific five-star hotel in Dhaka offers 300 items in its buffet dinner menu. Guests have their work cut out in choosing which items to leave out.
Other than these, private meetings or events also bear a huge cost, but also guests receive a safe, healthy and mesmerising environment.
For a wedding reception, birthday party or corporate conference, a five-star hotel is always equipped and ready to provide any set-up according to the customer's needs.
All these facilities come at a price. And as international brands manage most 5-star hotels, the price tag is set according to international standards as well.
In that case, the general people of our country might find it difficult to bear the expenses. But still, the hospitality industry of our country is ever expanding. During festive periods it is difficult to accommodate guests symbolising the demand and interest of people towards five-star hotels.
