Shah Rukh Khan, the 'Badshah of Bollywood,' 'King of Romance,' is renowned for his signature arms-outstretched pose and his natural acting. He has starred in over 60 films, and his movies are known for their catchy songs and memorable dances.
But did you notice the connection between SRK and trains? From taking Simran with him in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to dancing on Chaiyya Chaiyya on the top of a moving train and action-packed movie Pathaan, SRK made sure to make the fullest impact with the rhythm of the train.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge:
The first time you think of any Shah Rukh Khan movie with trains, DDLJ surely pops up in your mind. It all starts with a timeless classic, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which aired in 1995, where Raj (SRK) is on his train to Europe, leading him to meet Simran, who is late to catch the train but still manages to hop on that by creating the most loved scene in the history of Indian cinema.
Fast forward to falling in love, their families not approving of that, but finally "Ja Simran, Jee le apni zindagi" and their happily ever after started with another train journey.
From the initial journey to the iconic 'Palat' scene and the last scene, Raj's train scene in the movie had a great dose of romance.
Pathan:
Fast forward to Pathaan, released in 2023. It is the third highest-grossing Indian film of this year. SRk never misses any chance to mesmerise his fanbase, and he proved with an adrenaline-pumping action sequence that too at the age of 57.
Though the train isn't the central plot of the movie, we can't unsee the high-octane train fight of Pathaan and Tiger against villains.
Chennai Express:
Next up, we are on the platform of Chennai Express, which is an 'oh so funny' romance-comedy movie. SRK recreated his iconic DDLJ scene by putting his hand forward to help Meenamma hop on the train. The very next scene is also a funny replica of the movie when SRK pulled three other men to the train. And how can someone forget the fun antakshari on the train?
Swades:
As previously mentioned, SRk always experiments with his characters. Swades, a thought-provoking movie starring SRK as Mohan Bhargav, who is a researcher at NASA, while travelling to his own country, saw a little boy selling water for pennies. As a self-realisation movie, this scene changed Mohan's perspective that it was India who needed him most, not NASA.
Dil Se:
No one can dare to miss SRK's iconic train scene without mentioning Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se (1998). The music is so catchy and upbeat for a dance song, but the lyrics definitely stole the show.
Though it was risky to dance above the train, SRK and Malaika Arora totally aced the song with amazing dance steps, top-notch choreography and a gorgeous backdrop. While the movie was a flop at the box office, the song remains one of the most unforgettable dance sequences in Bollywood history.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:
KKHH brings back the warmth of teen love. The iconic scene starts when Rahul tries to stop Anjali from leaving the city. We can see a bunch of emotions happening on the train. Shah Rukh begged, got angry and ran after the moving train to stop his best friend, but she still left both the town and SRK. The iconic dupatta scene was a huge hit.
Jawaan:
The 2023 blockbuster presented by SRK is an action-packed movie of Bollywood. The bald look of SRK dancing on "Bekarar Karke Hume Yu Na Jaaiye" snatched the show.
In the recently released teaser of Dunki movie, directed by the famous Rajkumar Hirani, there is also a train scene that looks promising, and what else can we expect from King Khan?
Apart from those movies, there are some other SRK movies where the actor had train sequences.
Did you not cry when Veer Pratap Singh confessed his love for Zara at a train platform only to know that she was engaged to Raza Mia? The heart-wrenching pain in his eyes made a special place in the audience's heart.
Or remember the train journey of SRK narrating his stepbrother's stories to the train passenger in Main Hoon Na.
People are still humming the train song of Seema and Rahul, "Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaaun", from Yes Boss or the thrilling action scene of controlling a train as G.One in Ra.One, Dev leaving the country by train -- all of the sequences are etched in the audience's heart as timeless classics.
