At least 10 party activists have been injured after one faction of the BNP in Chandpur’s Kachua Upazila allegedly attacked another.

The incident occurred in the Rahimanagar Bazar area of the Upazila on Saturday afternoon, according to Md Azizul Islam, chief of Kachua Police Station.

First aid was administered to the injured at different local hospitals, according to BNP leaders from the Upazila. However, the names and identities of the injured have not been confirmed.

A tense atmosphere has descended on the Rahimanagar Bazar area and additional police personnel have been deployed to keep the situation under control.

The procession included supporters of BNP National Executive Committee member Mosharraf Hossain, supporters of Chandpur BNP General Secretary Selim Ullah Selim, and activists from the Mohila Dal.

The injured claim that the attack was carried out by party activists who support former state minister for education ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon. No leaders who support Milon were available for comment on the allegation.

OC Azizul said that a group of 15-20 men with rods and sticks attacked the procession and chased the attendees. Several people were injured when they threw brickbats at those taking part in the march.

Chandpur BNP leader Selim has roundly condemned the attack and demanded the swift arrest of the perpetrators.

“No BNP supporter can attack a mass march or rally that protests 'insults' against Tarique Rahman. The attackers are allies of fascism and misguided members of the BNP."
