The Supreme Court has released information about 12 judges sent on leave amid student protests at the court premises, demanding the resignation of those accused of “partisanship”.

Seven of these judges are currently under investigation by the Supreme Judicial Council.

The information was made public on the court's website on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.

The chief justice had sent 12 judges from the High Court Division on leave in October 2024.

“Of these, one judge resigned on Jan 30, 2025, while two others have not been permanently appointed to the High Court Division. Two judges have already retired,” the statement said.

The council is conducting a full investigation into the cases of four of the judges, with preliminary investigations ongoing for three others.

However, the names of these judges have not been disclosed.

On Jan 6, the top court said the Supreme Judicial Council would investigate several allegations against some judges.

The investigation was set to begin the following week upon receiving directives from President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

Earlier, on Dec 15, 2024, the Supreme Court issued another statement, saying the council had completed its investigation into “several” High Court judges and sent a report to the president.

In both instances, the names of the judges under investigation have not been disclosed.
