On the second day of appeals over nominations for the parliamentary polls, the Election Commission (EC) has received 122 applications challenging returning officers’ decisions.
Senior Assistant Secretary of the EC’s legal division Mainul Islam said confirmed the development on Tuesday.
With these, a total of 164 appeals have been filed over two days. Candidates have until Friday, Jan 9, to submit appeals, which will be resolved between Jan 10 and 18.
Returning officers had scrutinised nomination papers from Dec 30 to Jan 4, cancelling the candidacy of 723 individuals, leaving 1,842 valid candidates.
The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is Jan 20, and the final list of candidates with symbol allocation will be published on Jan 21.
Campaigning will begin the following day and continue until 7:30am on Feb 10, ahead of polling on Feb 12.
