Thirteen people have been injured at the start of the day amid the non-cooperation programme called by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement calling for the government to step down.
At least two were brought to the hospital with bullet injuries, reports bdnews24.com.
As of 12:30pm, people were brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from Shahbagh, Shanir Akhra, Nayabazar and other locations. There are worries the number will continue to climb.
Jamal Uddin, 50, and Sabbir, 18, came in from Shanir Akhra; Dip, 20, and Manzil, 50, were brought in from Munshiganj; Mahin, 25, Hasibur Rahman, 30, Subash, 24, Tanvir Rahman, 20, Selim, 40, Rimon, 23, and Hridoy, 20, were brought in from Shahbagh; Shahjalal, 30, was brought in from Gulistan.
Jamal Uddin was one of those shot.
The 13 injured so far are receiving treatment at the hospital, said Inspector Md Bachchu Mia of the DMCH police outpost.
The Anti-discrimination Student Movement called a ‘complete non-cooperation’ programme across the country starting Sunday to press for the government’s resignation.
On Saturday, at a mass rally in Dhaka, they said they would form a unified group of students and professionals and lay out a new future for Bangladesh.
They also announced protests and rallies at different important points across Dhaka.
The Awami League also announced programmes across the country on Sunday.
Clashes have been reported in several parts of Dhaka, with attackers vandalising Dhaka Medical College Hospital and burning a police vehicle on Johnson Road.
