Nearly 1,400 weapons and 250,000 rounds of ammunition, looted after the August 5 event, remain unrecovered as of February 18, 2025. The government has sought assistance from district commissioners in recovering these arms and ammunition.
The information was revealed by Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the chief adviser, following a session on the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Division at the District Commissioners' conference held at Osmani Memorial Hall on Tuesday (February 18).
Lt Gen Hafiz stressed that district commissioners must remain alert to several emerging challenges. He noted that the looted weapons and ammunition could be in various locations within their districts, posing a serious threat if they fall into the hands of militants or terrorists.
Hafiz also warned of the activities of autocratic figures of the ousted government and their associates who are gathering in various areas and organising programmes that could potentially push the country toward anarchy. He called for heightened vigilance from local authorities to prevent such a scenario.
