14th India-Bangladesh Joint Group of Customs meeting ends

Bangladesh and India have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing customs cooperation and streamlining cross-border trade.

Officials of the two neighbouring countries expressed the reaffirmation during the 14th Joint Group of Customs (JGC) meeting in New Delhi held on Monday and Tuesday, according to an India-based news outlet.

They discussed opening of new land customs stations, easing port restrictions and development of road and rail infrastructure, among other issues.

Pre-arrival exchange of customs data and a bilateral agreement on customs cooperation were also discussed during the meeting.

India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs member (customs) and Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue member (customs: audit, modernisation and international trade) participated in the meeting, among others.

Bangladesh and India hold JGC meeting on an annual basis to discuss issues relating to customs cooperation and cross-border trade facilitation.
