As many as 1,554 fire incidents took place in November 2019 causing extensive damage to properties across the country, according to a report of Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence.
The loss of properties was estimated at over Tk 183.47 million, the data showed.
However, the fire service department was able to save properties worth more than Tk 81 million during the month.
Electric short-circuit, burner fire, fire from thrown-out cigarette butts, and burning ashes were cited as major causes of fire incidents, according to the report.
The data also showed that 5,376 fire incidents took place back in 1996 while the number stood at 17,488 in 2018.
