A 15-kilometre long tailback has emerged on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The gridlock has stretched for a 15-kilometre portion of the highway from the capital’s Jatrabari to Narayanganj’s Madanpur since dawn on Wednesday, said Kanchpur Highway Police Station chief Rezaul Haque.

He said the police launched efforts at 10:15 am to ease the traffic congestion, reports bdnews24.com.

The police station’s duty officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sohel Rana said, “Many people have been heading to flood-hit areas carrying relief materials on trucks and pick-ups since the morning. They overtook other vehicles to try and get ahead."

“The disorder appeared on the road for this reason and a long tailback emerged. Our team is working to restore normality.”

Meanwhile, the traffic congestion on one of the country's busiest highways has also affected nearby roads, triggering a long tailback from Kanchpur on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
